Windows Experience Index
Windows Experience Index (WEI) is a performance metric that Microsoft introduced with Windows Vista and it is also present in Windows 7.It was made to give the user an idea about how well a computer will run Windows.
In Windows 7 the Windows Experience Index assesses the performance of the components in a computer on a scale from 1.0 to 7.9. The WEI score is determined by the lowest subscore of an individual component. This means that, for example, if you have a 5.8 subscore for the hard-disk drive and the score for the other components is higher than this one, the base score will be 5.8.
In order to assess your computer performance, do the following:
- Right click on Computer and click on Properties (or press the Windows Key+Pause).
- If you can see System rating is not available you should click on it because your system wasn’t rated. If a score appears then the system was rated.
- Click on Rate this computer. It is recommended that you close all other applications.
- The process will take some time during which you should not intervene in any way even if your screen may flicker or go blank.
- You can now see your Windows Experience Index.
If your computer already has a score but you want to update it you should do the following:
- Repeat step 1 from the above procedure.
- Click on Windows Experience Index.
- Now click on Re-run the assessment and wait while the calculations are being made.
- Your new score will appear.
