Windows Experience Index

Windows Experience Index (WEI) is a performance metric that Microsoft introduced with Windows Vista and it is also present in Windows 7.It was made to give the user an idea about how well a computer will run Windows.

In Windows 7 the Windows Experience Index assesses the performance of the components in a computer on a scale from 1.0 to 7.9. The WEI score is determined by the lowest subscore of an individual component. This means that, for example, if you have a 5.8 subscore for the hard-disk drive and the score for the other components is higher than this one, the base score will be 5.8.

In order to assess your computer performance, do the following:

  1. Right click on Computer and click on Properties (or press the Windows Key+Pause). computer_properties
  2. If you can see System rating is not available you should click on it because your system wasn’t rated.  If a score appears then the system was rated. windows_experience_index_1
  3. Click on Rate this computer. It is recommended that you close all other applications. windows_experience_index_2
  4. The process will take some time during which you should not intervene in any way even if your screen may flicker or go blank. windows_experience_index_3
  5. You can now see your Windows Experience Index. wei_score

If your computer already has a score but you want to update it you should do the following:

  1. Repeat step 1 from the above procedure.
  2. Click on Windows Experience Index. re_run_wei_1
  3. Now click on Re-run the assessment and wait while the calculations are being made. re_run_wei_2
  4. Your new score will appear.
